Fence painting, Auckland

Fence Painting Auckland

Looking for fence painting in Auckland? Painters Auckland paints and stains timber fences and gates for homes and rental properties across the North Shore, central Auckland, West and East Auckland and the Hibiscus Coast.

We clean, prepare and coat new and weathered fences, change stain colours, repaint previously painted fences, and coat gates, posts, rails and timber garden structures.

For a new fence that needs its first coat, or an old one that’s gone grey and patchy, you get a quote that covers the sides you want done and a plan for protecting what grows along it.

New fences need time before coating

New treated pine is often still wet from treatment and won’t take stain or paint properly until it has dried out. Coat it too early and the finish can fail. We check the timber and tell you whether to go now or wait.

What Fence Painting Includes

  • Cleaning and mould treatment on weathered timber
  • Scraping loose paint from previously painted fences
  • Plants, lawns, paving and cars covered or moved clear
  • Brush, roller or spray application to suit the fence and what’s nearby
  • Gates, posts, rails and capping
  • One or both sides, with the neighbour’s agreement

The neighbour’s side

Painting the far side of a boundary fence means working on the neighbour’s property, so it needs their okay. We can agree the colour with them or paint your side only. Where the fence line needs new planting, Landscaper Auckland in the Cornerstone Living network can help.

What Affects Your Fence Painting Quote

Fence quotes are mostly about length, height and what’s growing or parked next to it.

Length and height

The total area of fence sets the base amount of work, and taller fences need planks or ladders.

Fence style

Paling and slat fences have many edges and gaps that take longer than flat board fences.

Existing finish

Recoating a stain is quick. Flaking paint needs scraping, and changing from paint to stain means stripping it back.

Spray or brush

Spraying is fast on open sites. Near cars, windows and planting, brush and roller is safer.

One side or both

Doing both sides doubles the area and needs the neighbour’s agreement.

Planting along the line

Hedges and garden beds tight against the fence take time to tie back and protect.

How we quote. We measure the fence, check its condition and confirm which sides are included before giving you a written quote.

How a Fence Paint Job Runs

  1. Look and measure

We check the timber, the old finish and what’s along the fence line.

  2. Written quote

Length, sides, prep, product and coats all listed.

  3. Protect and clean

Plants and paving covered, then the fence cleaned and dried.

  4. Prep and coat

Loose paint scraped, then two coats of stain or paint.

  5. Tidy and check

Covers removed, drips cleaned up and a final look with you.

Why Choose Us for Your Fence

Gardens looked after

Plants and lawns are protected before any coating goes on.

Neighbours kept onside

We confirm the neighbour’s side before starting, not halfway through.

The right method

We only spray where overspray can’t reach cars, windows or next door.

Advice on timing

New timber is checked for dryness so the finish isn’t wasted.

Where We Do This Work

We paint and stain fences across Auckland, from central suburbs to new subdivisions on the Hibiscus Coast.

Fence Painting Questions

Should I stain or paint my fence?

Stain is easier to maintain and lets the timber grain show, but needs recoating more often. Paint gives a solid colour and lasts longer between coats, but when it fails it flakes and needs scraping. For most timber fences, a quality stain is the lower-maintenance choice.

Can you spray a fence?

Yes, on open sites where overspray can’t reach cars, windows, planting or next door. Where it can, we brush and roll instead, which is slower but safer.

How soon can a new fence be stained?

New treated pine usually needs time to dry out before it will take a coating well. The timing depends on the weather and the timber, so we check the fence before booking the work.

Do you paint both sides of the fence?

We can, with your neighbour’s agreement, since we’ll be working on their property. Many people split the job or agree a colour with the neighbour first.

Can you change a dark fence to a lighter colour?

Yes. Going lighter over a dark stain or paint may need extra coats, and some stains can’t be covered by a lighter stain at all, in which case paint is the option.

Do you paint gates, posts and timber retaining walls?

Yes. Gates, posts, capping, pergolas and timber retaining walls can all be included in the same job.
