Interior Painters Auckland
Looking for tidy, reliable interior painters in Auckland? Painters Auckland paints the inside of homes and rental properties across the North Shore, central suburbs, West and East Auckland and the Hibiscus Coast.
We paint walls, ceilings, doors, skirting and architraves, feature walls and complete interior repaints, along with the filling, sanding and priming that decides how the finish looks in low, raking light.
From one room before a new baby arrives to the whole house after the last tenant moves out, you get a clear quote, a start date you can plan around and rooms handed back clean.
Interior painting in Auckland homes
Auckland interiors bring a few recurring problems: mould on bathroom ceilings and cold south-facing walls, uneven old plaster in villas, and newer homes where the original low-grade paint marks the moment you touch it. Each needs a different fix before the new colour goes on.
What Interior Painting Covers
A good interior finish is decided before the lid comes off the tin.
- Walls and ceilings, including stairwells and high-stud rooms
- Doors, frames, skirting and architraves in enamel
- Feature walls and full colour changes
- Kitchens, bathrooms and laundries in moisture and mould-resistant paint
- Filling, sanding, spot priming and stain sealing before topcoats
- Furniture moved and covered, floors and fittings protected
When a wall needs more than paint
Cracked joins, dents and patchy old repairs show straight through new paint. That’s plastering work, and we can do it first so one team is responsible for the finished wall.

What Affects Your Interior Painting Quote
Interior quotes vary more with condition than with size. These are the things we look at when we walk through.
Rooms and ceiling height
High-stud villa ceilings and stairwells need planks or towers and take longer to cut in than a standard-height room.
Wall and ceiling condition
Cracks, dents, water stains and peeling paint all need repair and sealing before any colour goes on.
What’s included
Walls only is quicker than walls, ceilings, doors and trims. Enamel on doors and skirting is slow, careful brushwork.
Colour change
Covering a strong colour, or going dark to light, can add a coat.
Moisture and mould
Bathrooms, laundries and cold rooms need mould treatment and paint made for damp conditions.
Furniture and access
Empty rooms go fastest. Furnished rooms are fine, they just take longer to move and cover.
How we quote. We walk through each room with you and list what’s included room by room, so there’s no confusion about which ceilings, doors or trims are in.

Interior Painting Questions
Do we need to move furniture before you start?
No. We move and cover furniture as part of the job. It helps if you clear small items, ornaments and anything fragile off shelves and walls, and take down pictures you’d like rehung in a particular spot.
How many coats does an interior repaint need?
Usually two finish coats over a properly prepared surface. Bare plaster, new repairs and big colour changes need a sealer or undercoat first. Your quote spells out the coats for each surface.
What sheen should I use on walls, ceilings and trims?
As a general guide, ceilings suit a flat finish because it hides imperfections, living areas a low sheen that wipes clean, and doors, skirting and trims a semi-gloss or gloss enamel for durability. Kitchens and bathrooms need paints made for moisture.
Can you paint over wallpaper?
Sometimes, if the paper is firmly stuck and in good condition, but it’s rarely the best result. Joins and edges tend to show through, and paint can make the paper lift. In most cases we recommend removing it and repairing the wall first.
How do you deal with mould on bathroom ceilings?
We kill and clean the mould, let the surface dry, seal any stains, then use a mould-resistant bathroom paint. Paint helps, but if the room has poor ventilation the mould will come back, so it’s worth checking the extractor fan too.
Do you paint single rooms?
Yes. A single bedroom, hallway or feature wall is a normal job for us. If you have a few small rooms, grouping them into one visit is usually better value than booking them separately.
