Plasterers, Auckland

Plasterers Auckland

Looking for plasterers in Auckland who’ll get walls properly flat before they’re painted? Painters Auckland does interior plastering across the North Shore, central Auckland, West and East Auckland and the Hibiscus Coast.

We do GIB stopping on new and replaced plasterboard, plaster repairs to holes, cracks and water damage, skim coats over uneven or patched walls, and cornice repairs, all finished ready for paint or paper.

For renovations, patched-up rentals and older homes whose walls have been repaired one too many times, you get the plastering and the painting from one team, so the finish is one team’s responsibility.

Stopping levels and why they matter

Plasterboard can be stopped to different levels of finish. A standard finish is fine under flat paint in normal light, but low-sheen paint, strong side light from big windows and dark colours show every joint unless the walls are stopped to a higher level. We ask how the room will be painted and lit before quoting.

Fix the leak first

A water-stained or sagging ceiling is a symptom. The leak has to be fixed and the board has to dry out, or be replaced if it’s gone soft, before any plastering is worth doing.

What Affects Your Plastering Quote

Plastering quotes depend on the area, the condition of the wall and the finish you’re after.

Area

The total wall and ceiling area sets the base amount of work.

New board or repairs

Stopping new plasterboard is a different job from repairing and blending into old plaster.

Level of finish

Walls that will get low-sheen or dark paint, or strong side light, need a higher level of stopping.

Ceiling height

High-stud ceilings and stairwells need planks or towers.

Existing condition

Cracks that keep coming back, old texture coatings and water damage take more work.

Painting included

Plastering and painting together saves a separate trade visit and a second set of protection.

How we quote. We look at the walls in the light they’ll be seen in and quote the level of finish that suits the room, then the painting if you want it included.

How a Plastering Job Runs

  1. Inspection

We check the walls, ceilings and any cracks or damage.

  2. Written quote

Repairs, stopping level and painting, if included, listed clearly.

  3. Protect

Floors and furniture covered, because plastering is dusty work.

  4. Plaster and sand

Coats applied and sanded, with drying time between them.

  5. Seal and paint

The surface is sealed, ready for paint or paper, or painted by us.

Why Choose Us for Plastering

Plaster and paint together

One team is responsible for how the finished wall looks, so there’s no blaming the other trade.

Finish level matched to the room

We ask about paint and light before quoting, so joins don’t show later.

Dust controlled

Floors and furniture covered and work areas cleaned up every day.

Honest about causes

Cracks from movement or leaks get explained, not just filled.

Where We Do This Work

We do plastering across Auckland, often alongside interior painting and wallpaper work.

Plastering Questions

What is GIB stopping?

GIB stopping is the process of filling and finishing the joins, screw holes and corners of plasterboard so the wall looks like one smooth surface. It’s done in several coats with sanding between them, ready for paint or wallpaper.

Why do some cracks keep coming back?

Cracks that return are usually caused by movement in the house or the framing, not bad plastering. They can be repaired with flexible fillers and tape, but if the movement continues they may reappear. We’ll explain what we think is causing them.

Can you repair a water-damaged ceiling?

Yes, once the leak is fixed and the board has dried. Stained areas are sealed and repaired. If the board has sagged or gone soft, it needs replacing before plastering.

Do you replace sections of plasterboard?

Patching damaged areas is part of plaster repair. Larger replacement, new walls or anything involving framing is builder’s work, and Builders Auckland in the Cornerstone Living network can handle it.

How long does plaster need to dry before painting?

It depends on the thickness of the coats, the temperature and the humidity. We allow proper drying time before sealing and painting, because painting too early leads to flashing and poor adhesion.

Is skim coating worth it?

On walls with lots of patches, old texture or uneven plaster, skim coating gives a single flat surface that paint looks much better on. For a few small repairs, patching is enough.
