Roof painting, Auckland

Roof Painting Auckland

Looking for roof painting in Auckland? Painters Auckland repaints iron and concrete tile roofs on homes across the North Shore, central Auckland, West and East Auckland and the Hibiscus Coast.

The work covers washing off moss, lichen and grime, treating surface rust, priming bare or treated areas, and applying roof paint made for full sun and weather, with gutters and flashings included where they’re part of the scope.

For homeowners whose roof has faded, rusted at the laps or started growing lichen, a repaint can protect the roof and refresh the whole house. If your roof is past painting, we’ll say so before you spend money on it.

When a roof shouldn’t be painted

Paint protects a sound roof. It doesn’t fix a failing one. Iron that’s rusted through, cracked or crumbling tiles, and leaks from flashings or penetrations need a roofer first. We look at the roof up close before quoting and tell you plainly which situation you’re in.

How We Prepare a Roof for Paint

Roof paint fails when it’s put on dirty, rusty or loose surfaces, so preparation takes up most of the job.

  • Washing to remove dirt, moss and lichen, with a treatment for organic growth
  • Rust spots wire-brushed and treated, and bare metal primed
  • Loose or failed coatings removed from tile roofs
  • Fixings checked on iron roofs and anything loose pointed out
  • Two coats of roof paint suited to iron or concrete tile
  • Gutters, downpipes and flashings painted to match if included

Roof and exterior together

If your walls are also due, painting the roof and exterior as one job means scaffolding goes up once, and the roof, spouting and trims are chosen as one colour scheme.

What Affects Your Roof Painting Quote

Roof quotes depend mostly on size, pitch, material and how much rust or growth has to be dealt with.

Size and pitch

Steep roofs need edge protection or fall restraint and are slower to work on than low-pitch roofs.

Roof material

Iron and concrete tile need different cleaning, primers and paints.

Rust and growth

Heavy rust, lichen and moss need more treatment and priming before any paint goes on.

Height and access

Two-storey homes and tight sites usually need scaffolding for safe access.

Colour change

Going from a dark roof to a light one may need an extra coat.

Gutters and flashings

Including spouting, downpipes and flashings adds brushwork but finishes the job properly.

How we quote. We get up on the roof before quoting, and your quote notes anything we found that should be fixed by a roofer first.

How a Roof Repaint Runs

  1. Roof inspection

We check the roof surface, rust, fixings and flashings up close.

  2. Written quote

Prep, products, coats and any repairs to sort first, all listed.

  3. Wash and treat

Moss, lichen and grime removed and the roof left to dry.

  4. Rust treatment and prime

Rust spots treated, bare areas primed, loose coatings removed.

  5. Paint and check

Two coats in dry, settled weather, then a final check with you.

Why Choose Us for Roof Painting

An honest roof assessment

If painting won’t help, you’ll hear that before you spend anything.

Safety set up properly

Work at height is set up with the edge protection or fall restraint the roof needs.

Paired with exterior work

One scaffold and one colour scheme when the walls are due at the same time.

Neighbours considered

We plan washing and painting so run-off and overspray stay on your property.

Where We Do This Work

We paint roofs across Auckland, including coastal homes where salt air speeds up rust.

Roof Painting Questions

Can a rusty iron roof be painted?

Surface rust can be treated and painted over once it’s wire-brushed and primed. Iron that has rusted through, or is pitted and thin, can’t be saved with paint and needs replacing. We’ll check which you have before quoting.

Is it better to paint or replace my roof?

If the roof is structurally sound and not leaking, painting is usually the cheaper way to protect it and improve its look. If it’s leaking, rusted through or badly damaged, replacement is the better investment, and we’ll tell you so.

Can concrete tile roofs be painted?

Yes. Tiles are cleaned and treated for moss and lichen, broken tiles should be replaced by a roofer, and then a sealer and roof paint suited to concrete tile are applied.

Can you paint the roof and the house at the same time?

Yes, and it’s often the best time to do it. One scaffold covers both, and the roof, spouting and walls can be chosen as a single colour scheme.

How long does roof painting take?

It depends on the size of the roof, how much preparation it needs and the weather, because roofs need dry days for washing, drying and painting. We’ll give you an expected timeframe with the quote.

Do you paint roofs on two-storey houses?

Yes. Two-storey homes usually need scaffolding for safe access, and that’s included in the quote if it’s required.
