Wallpaper Installation Auckland
Looking for wallpaper installation in Auckland? Painters Auckland hangs and removes wallpaper in homes and commercial spaces across the North Shore, central Auckland, West and East Auckland and the Hibiscus Coast.
We install standard papers, non-woven and vinyl wallcoverings and patterned feature walls, and we handle the removal, wall repairs, sealing and priming that come first.
If you’ve chosen a paper and need it hung properly, or you’re finally getting rid of old paper in a villa bedroom, you get a quote that covers the preparation as well as the hanging.
Why the wall matters more than the paper
Wallpaper shows every bump, crack and ridge in the wall behind it, and it won’t stick properly to dusty or unsealed surfaces. Most of the time on a wallpaper job goes into getting the wall flat and sealed, which is why we do the plastering ourselves.
What Wallpaper Installation Includes
- Stripping old wallpaper and adhesive
- Plaster repairs, filling and sanding
- Sealing and priming so the new paper grips evenly
- Measuring and advice on how many rolls to order
- Hanging with the pattern matched at every join
- Painting the surrounding walls, ceiling and trims in the same visit
Ordering the right amount
Patterned papers waste more on each drop because of the pattern repeat. Before you order, we can measure the wall and tell you how many rolls you’ll need, so every roll comes from the same batch and the colour matches.

What Affects Your Wallpaper Quote
Wallpaper quotes depend on the wall and the paper as much as on the area.
Wall size and height
Taller walls and stairwells need longer drops, more handling and sometimes planks.
Pattern repeat
Large pattern repeats take more time to match and waste more paper.
Wall condition
Cracks, dents and uneven plaster need repair before hanging, or they’ll show through.
Removing old paper
Multiple layers, painted-over paper and stubborn adhesive all add stripping time.
Paper type
Heavy vinyls, grasscloths and delicate papers need more care than standard non-woven papers.
Obstacles
Windows, switches, fireplaces and built-ins mean more cutting around.
How we quote. We look at the wall and the paper you’ve chosen, then quote the removal, repairs and hanging separately so you can see where the time goes.

Wallpaper Questions
Do you supply the wallpaper?
Most clients choose and buy their own paper from a wallpaper supplier. We measure the wall first and tell you how many rolls to order, including allowance for the pattern repeat.
Can new wallpaper go over old wallpaper?
It isn’t a good idea. The old paper can lift under the new paper’s adhesive, and joins show through. We strip the old paper and prepare the wall first.
How long does wallpaper removal take?
It depends on the number of layers, whether it’s been painted over and the adhesive used. Easy-strip papers come off quickly. Old, painted-over paper in villas can take much longer. We’ll check before quoting.
Can wallpaper go in a bathroom?
Yes, with a vinyl or moisture-resistant paper and good ventilation. Areas that get direct water, such as inside a shower, aren’t suitable.
Do you do commercial wallpaper?
Yes. We hang wallcoverings in offices, retail and hospitality spaces, and can schedule the work around trading hours.
Is lining paper needed?
Sometimes. Lining paper helps on older or slightly uneven walls and with some heavy or delicate papers. We’ll tell you if your wall needs it.
